ProZinc for Cats & Dogs

Prescription required

ProZinc® is a long-acting insulin suspension used in the ongoing management of diabetes mellitus in cats and dogs, under veterinary supervision.

Important Shipping Information

  • ProZinc requires refrigeration. Each order is packed with an insulated kit and ice packs to help maintain temperature. Same-day delivery is offered for local orders; non-local orders are shipped by expedited service, and an additional shipping fee applies for temperature-controlled packaging and priority handling.
  • Despite these precautions, there remains a risk of temperature excursion during transit delays. Refrigerated products cannot be refunded or replaced.
  • To prevent temperature-sensitive products from being held in courier warehouses over the weekend, refrigerated items are not shipped on Thursdays or Fridays; such orders are shipped the following Monday to ensure product integrity.

Main Uses

  • Helps control blood glucose (hyperglycemia) and its associated signs in cats and dogs with diabetes mellitus.
  • A long-acting insulin used for ongoing, day-to-day management of diabetes under veterinary supervision.

Active Ingredients

  • Protamine zinc recombinant human insulin, 40 IU/mL (U-40): a long-acting insulin suspension.
  • Insulin promotes the uptake and use of glucose by body tissues while reducing glucose production by the liver. The protamine zinc formulation slows absorption, providing a prolonged duration of action.

Directions

  • Use a U-40 insulin syringe only; using any other syringe will result in incorrect dosing. Give by subcutaneous injection, with or right after a meal.
  • The starting dose and dosing frequency are determined by your veterinarian based on your pet's weight, blood glucose measurements, and clinical response.
  • Gently roll the vial between your palms before each dose until the suspension is uniformly cloudy. Do not shake vigorously. Do not use if clumps or particles remain.
  • If a dose is missed, give the next dose as scheduled. Never give an extra dose to make up for a missed one, and always follow your veterinarian's instructions.

Safety

  • The most important risk is hypoglycemia (low blood sugar), which can occur even at the prescribed dose or after an overdose. Mild signs may include weakness, depression, behavioural changes, muscle twitching, and anxiety. Severe hypoglycemia can progress to seizures, coma, or death if not treated promptly.
  • Do not use during an episode of hypoglycemia or in animals sensitive to the ingredients. Regular veterinary monitoring of blood glucose is essential.
  • Avoid contact with your eyes; accidental self-injection can cause low blood sugar — seek medical attention if it occurs.

Storage

  • Store upright and refrigerated at 2 to 8°C, do not freeze, and protect from light. Use the 10 mL vial within 60 days of first puncture.

  • Manufacturer: Boehringer Ingelheim (Boehringer Ingelheim Animal Health Canada Inc., Burlington, Ontario).
