Virbac EPIOTIC® Advanced Ear Cleanser for Dogs & Cats
Virbac EPIOTIC® Advanced is a gentle, neutral-pH ear cleanser formulated for routine use in dogs and cats. It helps remove excess wax, cellular debris and dirt while neutralizing unpleasant odours and leaving a mild, fresh scent.
The cleanser may also be used before medicated ear drops or ointments to clear debris from the ear canal and help the prescribed treatment reach the skin more effectively.
Recommended Uses
- Routine ear cleaning and hygiene
- Removal of excess wax, dirt and cellular debris
- Ongoing care for pets prone to ear problems, including those with allergies, floppy ears or frequent exposure to water
- Cleaning the ear canal before applying prescribed ear medication
- Control of unpleasant ear odours
Key Ingredients and Properties
- Salicylic acid 0.2%: Helps loosen and remove dead skin cells and accumulated wax.
- Monosaccharides: D-galactose, D-mannose and L-rhamnose form part of Virbac’s Glycotechnology, designed to reduce the attachment of certain bacteria and yeast to the ear canal.
- PCMX (chloroxylenol): Helps maintain a balanced microbial environment within the ear.
- Disodium EDTA: A chelating agent that may help disrupt certain bacterial biofilms.
- Docusate sodium: A surfactant that softens and emulsifies thick or excessive earwax, making it easier to remove.
Directions for Use
- Turn the white nozzle to open the bottle.
- Apply the cleanser generously into the ear canal until the liquid is visible.
- Gently massage the base of the ear for 30–60 seconds to loosen wax and debris.
- Allow your pet to shake its head.
- Use a cotton ball, gauze pad or soft cloth to wipe away material from the accessible part of the ear and ear flap.
- Do not insert cotton swabs or other objects deep into the ear canal.
The amount required will depend on the size of the pet’s ear canal; no weight-based dosage adjustment is required.
Suggested Frequency
- For routine hygiene: Use two to three times weekly or as needed.
- When used with prescribed ear medication: Clean the ear as directed by the veterinarian, usually before applying the medication.
- For daily or long-term use: Follow the veterinarian’s recommendations based on the condition of the pet’s ears.
Safety Information
- For external ear use only.
- Avoid contact with the eyes.
- Do not use if the eardrum is known or suspected to be ruptured unless specifically directed by a veterinarian.
- Mild temporary redness or discomfort may occur, particularly when the ear is already inflamed.
- Stop using the product and contact a veterinarian if your pet develops persistent redness, pain, worsening irritation, unusual discharge, head tilting, loss of balance or increased discomfort.
- If an ear infection is suspected, seek veterinary assessment rather than relying on an ear cleanser alone.
- Always follow the product label and your veterinarian’s instructions.
